The Scalas had always been a very tight-knit family; they did absolutely everything together. On what seemed like a typical Monday afternoon earlier this Spring, they received a phone call they never expected: John Scala, the father and forefront of their family, had been killed in a car accident.

This news took a toll on not only Jennifer and Matthew (John’s children), and Lynn (mother to Jen and Matt, and wife to John), but also on many other people whose lives were truly impacted by John’s presence. Matthew, 14, was just about to start high school, and Jennifer, 18, was just about to start college. Their father was the driving force and inspiration for the family to always keep going, no matter what obstacles got in the way.

Jennifer Scala reflects on this tragic loss, and how it’s truly impacted her family and her life.
